An installation can vary from region to region, even hamlet to hamlet. The type of installation you will require depends on several things,
TYPE OF SOIL, this can be determined by a soil test, described later.
WELLS, LAKES, STREAMS, SOURCES OF WATER,
SIZE OF LAND FOR THE TREATMENT SITE
SIZE OF PROPERTY, OR FUTURE SIZE
The MINIMUM. SIZE fosse septique to current regs is a 3,000 litre ALL WATER, with either 60 meters of eppandage or a 5 meter x 5 meter sand filter, drained or non drained.
The most basic, cheapest system to install is an eppandage system, you will need at least
300 sq meters, see heading above.
If water is present within a radius of 35 meters a sand filter will be required, drained, if the lay of the land does not allow this a pump,electrics and housing will be required to pump the waste water to an approved exit point. See heading above.
If land size is a problem, septodiffuseurs could be the solution, but all departments do not recognise these.
SOIL TEST. Dig a 30cm x30cm hole x 50cm deep, fill with water and wait until it all drains. When it has all gone, pour in 10 litres of water and TIME how long it takes to disappear. Voila. Within a few minutes and the land is too absorbent you have between 1 and 4 hours, 1 to 2 hours ok, 3 hours ok but may need longer eppandage ( drains )
4 hours and plus the land wont absorb and a sand filter is required. The sanitation dept always have the final say!!
